Using the GED calculator
Get familiar with fractions, secondary functions, and the calculator controls before test day.
Official GED calculator tutorial ↗How do I enter fractions and mixed numbers?
Press n/d to insert a fraction. Fill the numerator, then use the down arrow or Tab to move to the denominator. Use the right arrow to leave the fraction before adding another operation. For a mixed number, press 2nd, then n/d. You can also type frac(3,4) or mixed(1,2,3). Results simplify automatically; use f ↔ d to switch to a decimal.
How do secondary functions and angle modes work?
Press 2nd once, then choose a key’s upper label. Press it again to cancel. Mode sets degrees, radians, or gradians, as well as floating or fixed decimals and scientific or engineering notation. Degree mode is the default.
Can I use this calculator on the GED test?
This website is for educational practice and is not approved for use in an official examination. Follow the examination provider’s current rules and use an approved physical calculator where required. Check GED.com for official guidance.
What functions are available?
Arithmetic, fractions and mixed numbers, exact roots and π, powers and reciprocals, percentages, logs and exponentials, trig and inverse trig, hyperbolics, angle and coordinate conversions, factorials, combinations, permutations, seeded random values, seven memory variables, three data lists with formulas, weighted 1- and 2-variable statistics, linear regression predictions, function tables, and repeated operations. More functions opens the extended menu. Press DATA for the LCD list editor; press 2nd then DATA for STAT. Press TABLE to enter f(x), Start, Step, and Auto or Ask-x. Use the keypad and arrows throughout; 2nd then Quit returns to your calculation.
How closely does this match a TI-30XS?
Open Study Calculator is an independent implementation informed by the official TI guidebook. It uses an original interface, editable expression syntax, and browser numeric arithmetic for transcendental functions. It is not a certified emulator; hardware rounding, random sequences, and some exact symbolic forms can differ. Textbook mode shows supported fraction and root expressions visually; Classic mode evaluates chained powers from left to right.
